The Yampa River

Keith at the take out.

The Yampa River from the canyon rim.

Beans n Rice with cheap beer....that's what camping out of the truck is all about.

This weekend Keith and I decided to leave Boulder and go run the Cross Mountain Gorge section of the Yampa River. We head out Friday late afternoon and made it most of the way there by dark. We ran the Gorge on Saturday and had a pretty good run except for my swim in the very last rapid! Arghhh...I don't understand how Keith never gets thrown out of the boat! We then walked the rim of the canyon back to the truck where Cota was patiently waiting for us. The hike was awesome and I got to see my first elk. I couldn't help but think of how Jake runs those HUGE animals down and then shoots them with a bow! Go Jake! Cota loved camping out by the river and chasing all the rabbits out in the desert. We returned to Boulder early on Sunday because our perfect weather was gone and rain was moving in. We enjoyed a long, snowy drive through Berthoud Pass and wished we had brought along our skis as well.
