Buenas Noches

We arrived in Guatemala at 5:30am this morning and managed to find our way to the correct bus station in enough time to catch the 6:30am bus to Xela. Xela is the second largest city in Guatemala and will be our home for the next week/ week and a half. The bus ride here was beautiful, and despite the bumps on the road and the fact that we were driving extremely fast on the incredibly winding road I managed to sleep a little. We got to Xela mid-afternoon. After finding a room for the evening and eating a yummy lunch we settled down for a siesta. Now I am sipping cafe con leche in a cute Internet cafe loving life. I am already fascinated with Guatemala! It is absolutely beautiful and the people are very friendly. One of the things I love so much already is how colorful the country is. The lush green of the countryside, the fascinating colors of the traditional clothing, and the brightly painted buildings simply make me smile.

Tomorrow we plan to sign up at a language school. We are pretty sure when know which one we want to attend but it will be fun to check a few out to see how they differ. I am especially excited about the Spanish lessons and home stay because it has been 4 years since I have taken Spanish and I am a little rough around the edges! I am sure it will all start coming back to me very soon and I plan on studying hard so, hopefully I will have no problem communicating within a couple of weeks! Okay, I am off for now. We are going to go to a veggie Guatemalan restaurant tonight and I am stoked! I will post again later this week. !
