We came to Shanghai on Wednesday with my dad and his friend Neils. We enjoyed a yummy lunch on a roof top restaurant on the Bund, two antique markets, a foot massage (this is in addition to the foot and full body we had earlier in the week! The Chinese love massages!), and more good food while they were here. They left on Friday so Keith and I are now on our own. Yesterday we went to Suzhou which is famous for it's Chinese gardens and canals. We went to one garden that was very beautiful but unbelievably crowded. The highlight of the day was renting bicycles for the 8 hours and exploring the town. I have to add, biking in China is one of the most insane things I've ever done. At one point I found myself in a 5 lane traffic circle with buses, motorcycles, cars, pedicabs, tuktuks and every other type of transportation on wheels entering from all directions with no one paying any attention to lanes. Keith said I had a huge "shit eating" grin on my face the whole time. Today we spent hours in the Shanghai museum and ate dinner at a vegetarian restaurant that specializes in mock meat. You can order "shrimp", "crab", "lamb", "beef", "chicken", or any other "meat" and you will find yourself eating a veggie meal that is looks convincingly real. Here are some photos from the past few days:
